Profile: A D Transport Express, Inc.

Canton, Michigan

Annual Revenue:   $80 million

Number of employees:   approx 755

A.D. Transport has a standardized fleet consisting of over 350 newer Kenworth tractors each equipped with Caterpillar emission reduction and measurement technology. This technology allows them to measure improvements in environmental areas such as idle time by simply plugging tractors in to the computer each time they come in for routine or preventive maintenance.

A.D. Transport Express, is currently in the process of purchasing 11 Auxiliary Power Units to reduce engine idling time. Their first installation of an APU reduced driver's idle time from 65% down to 6%, not only providing a substantial savings on fuel cost, but reducing emissions to the environment as well.

In 2006, A.D. Transport committed to significantly reduce their vehicle emissions and identified all tractors within their fleet that were idling excessively. Beginning in 2006, and continuing throughout 2007, A.D. Transport plans to equip these trucks with Auxiliary Power Units, with a reduction goal of 7% idling or less. With the added fuel savings from reduced idling, A.D. Transport expects these units will pay for themselves within the first year.

Additionally, A.D. Transport introduced Bio-Diesel blending into its corporate terminal fuel island.

“A.D. Transport is certified to the ISO14001:1996 International Environmental Management Standard, which mandates AD Transport to evaluate all environmental aspects and their associated impacts. The effectiveness of our Environmental Management System is audited annually by independent 3rd party registrars, as well as our own team of internal auditors.”
