July 30, 2007

On July 26, the House passed H.R. 3093, legislation making appropriations for the National Science Foundation, as well as the Departments of Commerce and Justice, and other science and related Agencies, for the 2008 fiscal year that begins on Oct. 1, 2007. The vote was 281 yeas to 142 opposed.

Floor action came shortly after the House Appropriations Committee reported the measure which would provide $6,509 million for NSF. This is $80 million (1.2%) above the President's request and $591.84 million (10%) above the FY 2007 Continuing Resolution. For details on the House bill, see the July 17 Congressional Highlight.

Next up will be a possible Senate floor vote. The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved legislation that would provide $6,553.4 million for NSF. The Senate mark is $124.4 million (1.9%) above the President's request and $637.8 million (10.8%) above the FY 2007 Continuing Resolution. For details on the Senate bill, see the June 28 Congressional Highlight.
