President Signs Measure Funding Most Federal Agencies, Including NSF, Through March 2009
October 4, 2008
The President has signed legislation (H.R. 2638, the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2009) that includes language to continue appropriations for most agencies until enactment of the applicable regular appropriations bill or until March 6, 2009, whichever occurs first. The measure, known as a continuing resolution, applies to agencies and activities that would be covered by regular fiscal year 2009 appropriations bills. The continuing resolution was needed because the 13 regular appropriations bills for FY2009 have not been passed by the House and Senate. The House did pass the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriation, however. The new fiscal year began on October 1, 2008.
NSF was funded at $6.065 billion for the 2008 fiscal year. Earlier this year, the Appropriations Committees of the House and Senate approved measures that would provide NSF with a 13 percent increase over the FY2008 level for FY 2009. The continuing resolution funds NSF at the 2008 level.
