Title:

Weather Information for Emergency Management

Abstract:

This paper discusses the type of information required for emergency management planning and response needs. Weather required by emergency managers requires careful consideration of a number of factors that include (1) What type of disasters are applicable to a particular locale and require historical or real-time weather information?, (2) Is the weather information needed for planning purposes, for real-time support, or both?, (3) Are weather professionals available to interpret and condense the vast amounts and complexity of weather information required to manage a particular disaster?, and (4) Do backup sources of weather information exist in the event that primary sources are disrupted.
