Best Practices for Road Weather Management Version 2.0
Title:
A Large Scale Trail with Intelligent Speed Adaptation in Lund Sweden
Abstract:
The Swedish National Road Administration (SNRA) conducted a trial with Intelligent Speed Adaptation in urban areas. Expert judgements, the high proportion of injury accidents and the increased accident risks compared to "normal" conditions show that road surface, visibility and weather dependent situations are most ciritical considering speed adaptation. A speed algorithm was proposed, which calculates the appropriate highest speed for different conditions, such as speed limit, wet/slippery roads, decreased visibility, and darkness.
