Abstracts: Gulf Coast Science Conference

The First Annual USGS Gulf Coast Science Conference will highlight USGS research and investigations in the Gulf of Mexico coastal areas, provide for the exchange of information between scientists from across the Gulf Coast, and foster future collaboration. The proceedings from this meeting will be published in a USGS circular intended to provide easily accessible information about USGS activities, capabilities, and points of contact.

Speakers have been invited for the oral presentations during the meeting; however, we encourage all of you to present your work in poster format for discussion during the evening poster sessions.  Please forward your abstracts by email to your Science Center Director and Dawn Lavoie no later than August 8, 2008 for inclusion in the agenda and abstract booklet. Please have your abstract reviewed by two technical reviewers (both can be from your local office) prior to submission. Routing abstracts through EPN is not required.

Please limit your text to 450 words, an appropriate illustration is welcome.

The Gulf Coast Science Meeting is scheduled for October 20-22, 2008 at the International Plaza Resort and Spa on International Drive in Orlando, Florida.  From October 22-23, the Florida Integrated Science Center (FISC) will host a science conference focused on Florida issues, providing an opportunity for those interested to participate in both meetings.  A joint session of the Gulf Coast Science meeting and FISC meeting will be held on October 22.

For more information on the Gulf Coast conference please contact Dawn Lavoie (dlavoie@usgs.gov).

Abstracts: FISC Science Meeting

This is a friendly reminder that time is short for submission of abstracts for inclusion in the FISC Science meeting.

We encourage all of you to present your work either as an oral presentation or in poster format for discussion during the evening poster sessions.

Please download and follow the format of the abstract template* (.doc file, 62 KB) with a 450 work limit. Please have your abstract reviewed by two technical reviewers (both can be from your local office). Then forward your abstract to Barry Rosen or one of the Associate Directors (Brown, Kaye, or Kindinger) for USGS approval. Routing abstracts through EPN is not required prior to submission.

Please forward your approved abstracts by email to Kim Haag (khhaag@usgs.gov) no later than July 31, 2008 for inclusion in the agenda and abstract booklet. Indicate in your email whether you would prefer an oral or poster presentation.

The Science Meeting is scheduled for October 22-23, 2008 at the International Plaza Resort and Spa on International Drive in Orlando. The Annual Gulf Science Meeting is scheduled at the same hotel during October 20-22, providing an opportunity for those interested in this meeting to arrive earlier and stay for both meetings. A joint session of the Gulf Coast Science and FISC groups will be held on Wednesday morning, October 22.

For questions concerning the abstracts, please contact Kim Haag or Dave Sumner.

(For any other questions concerning the FISC science meeting, please contact Carolyn Zimmer.)
