Angling effort was made for 1-2 days to generate marked fish within the lake fish population. Upon capture of a fish, a fin was clipped and the fish was immediately returned to the lake, relatively unharmed. Injured fish (e.g., those bleeding from the tongue or gills) were released unmarked. Fish were then re-captured following the marking effort with a variable-mesh monofilament gillnet. Nets were 42 m long with 10.5 m panels of 12.5, 18.5, 25, and 33 mm bar mesh. Nets were set at random locations in each lake and checked for fish periodically. Overnight sets were checked the following morning. Total lengths of re-captured fish were measured in mm.
