Accuracy of Online Information
Complete accuracy for all online information is an important goal. This is true for both the content of the document and the construction (HTML syntax) of the document.
In terms of content, care should be exercised in the following areas:
- Information on which users may base important decisions (e.g., proposed regulations, environmental data, grant application deadlines, policy guidance, etc.).
- Inaccuracies which compromise meaning (e.g., missing text, misaligned table cells, etc.).
- Cosmetic flaws (e.g., non-italicized titles, missing em-dashes, etc.).
Before submitting any HTML document the syntax and spelling should be checked and all links verified. It's best to use your word processor's spell checker for spelling; most Web-based spelling checkers have now disappeared. HTML syntax can be checked by using a HTML validation tool such as those listed at HTML and Web Site Validators.
HTML does not precisely mimic the printed page. The formatting adjustments which are required to present information in HTML are not considered to compromise accuracy if they faithfully convey the information in a document.
