by students and young design practitioners. Each volume, produced by a
guest editor, will focus on a theme relevant to pedagogy and practice.

ideas will be developed for business district revitalization, urban planning,
architectural concepts, community identity, and streetscaping.

commissioned essays and photography that explore critical issues in architecture,
landscape architecture, and urban design.
ICA & CA (Center for the Study of Classical Architecture
Inc.) (consortium)

To support a consortium project with Habitat for Humanity International
to design well-proportioned homes based on the Habitat housing model.
Architects will be paired with Habitat affiliates working in historic
urban neighborhoods to design contextually sensitive homes that will enhance
those neighborhoods.

To support a charrette process that will provide a forum for the residents
of La Habra, California to assist in the development of a residential,
mixed-use project. The design will serve as a model for other communities
seeking to accommodate the growing Latino population in Southern California.

architectural installation. The project will create a public venue at

A workbook and training program will be developed to assist communities
in making informed decisions about retail development, building design,

will be selected through a juried competition, and the initial print run

one percent of their billable hours to pro bono work. Using an interactive
website, participating architects will be connected with not-for-profit
organizations and communities seeking design services.

competitively selected and reflecting a broad cross-section of the Tucson
community, will learn about the city's architectural traditions, gain
an understanding of historic and contemporary design concepts, learn about
the review process, and develop contacts with design professionals

Charleston, SC

To support a consortium project for a team of designers and artists to
develop a plan for Charleston's Memminger district. Clemson University's
Graduate Center in Historic Preservation will work with the design team
to reclaim the district as a public and civic space for community use.
Van Alen Institute: Projects in Public Architecture

To support an exhibition and publication on recreation and play. The exhibition
will be organized around three main concepts - amusement parks, downtown
playgrounds, and park systems used as entertainment networks.
