A picture of the setting sun off the coast of Estonia and the letter "A."

This picture of the setting sun off the coast of Estonia was taken in the fall of 1999 from a ferry boat on a return trip to Helsinki, Finland. The letters "A" and "B" (next image) were added in 2005 to create an example of steganography. One of the images, "A," contains a map of downtown Washington, D.C., hidden in the least significant bits of the green color.
