77.512

Inspection and cover plates on electrical equipment shall be kept in place at all times except during testing or repairs.

There is no MSHA policy for this standard.

These standards require cover plates to be in place at all times on electrical equipment and junction boxes except when the equipment or electrical circuit is being tested or repaired.

Issues to Consider in Determining Compliance:

·        Is the electrical circuit in service (e.g., is electrical power on or is the motor in operation)?

·        Is there a splice within the junction box or are the conductors exposed to mechanical damage?

·        Is the electrical circuit or equipment being tested or repaired?
