U.S. Labor Department pairs town hall meetings, Traveling Resource Center for visits to Santa Fe, White Rock and Albuquerque, N.M.

Department to provide information for nuclear weapons workers who became ill

WASHINGTON — During the first week of April, the U.S. Department of Labor will visit Santa Fe, White Rock and Albuquerque, N.M., to provide information about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA).

Through town hall meetings, officials will present details about the two classes of former employees of the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, N.M., added to the act’s Special Exposure Cohort (SEC), as well as an overview of EEOICPA Parts B and E.  Additionally, the department’s Traveling Resource Center personnel will be available to help individuals interested in filing compensation claims.  Representatives from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health will be in attendance to provide information, as well.

The EEOICPA provides compensation and medical benefits to employees who became ill as a result of working in the nuclear weapons industry.  The SEC allows eligible claims to be compensated without the completion of a radiation dose reconstruction or determination of the probability of causation.  For additional information about the meetings or to schedule an appointment for claim-filing assistance, call 866-272-3622 toll-free.  Pre-registration is not required to participate in these activities.
