·           The U.S. is Malaysia’s largest export market, and the Malaysian government is fully aware that complying with supply chain security is imperative to maintaining unimpeded access to this market.

·           Under the U.S. Container Security Act, which took effect here in 2004, the U.S. has started stringent checks on Malaysian exports at Malaysia’s two largest ports.

·           U.S. companies presently dominate the market for airport and seaport security equipment.  European and Chinese companies are now trying very hard to increase their share, especially for cargo screening systems.

·            Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAHB) is the primary operator and manager of Malaysia’s 37 airports, and is the decision maker for purchasing airport security equipment such as baggage x-ray, carry-on x-ray, and metal detector systems.

Best Products/Services

·           Best products are cargo x-ray, baggage x-ray, carry-on x-ray, and metal detector systems.  Other equipment of increasing interest includes computerized access control systems, biometric security systems and high tech perimeter control systems.

Opportunities

·           MAHB plans to upgrade six units of its CTX 5000 x-ray machines at KLIA in the next one or two years.  It might also consider buying Inline Baggage Screening Systems at four of its newly upgraded international airports

·            Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will be implementing an integrated Security system in order to meet and enhance overall security and control requirements under the following initiatives: (a) Implementation of new digital surveillance system; (b) integration of radio frequency identification devices (RFID) at air-bridges; (c) Replacement of existing analog CCTV system in MAS premises at KLIA; enhancement of access control system.

·           More non-intrusive inspection equipment (including gamma or x-ray imaging capabilities) and radiation detection equipment will likely be purchased in the near future.
