National Council on the Arts Convenes for 163rd Meeting
March 26, 2008 Washington, D.C. – The National Council on the Arts, the advisory body of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), will meet in a public session on Friday, March 28 in Room M-09 of The Nancy Hanks Center, 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month 2008, the NEA presents "A Masterly Milestone: Celebrating 100 NEA Jazz Masters." The program features music and conversation with 2006 NEA Jazz Master and clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera, a discussion with 2008 NEA Jazz Master and scholar Gunther Schuller, and a sneak preview of the television broadcast of "LEGENDS OF JAZZ Presents the 2007 NEA Jazz Masters." The NEA Office of Research and Analysis will give a preview of Artists in the Workforce, 1990-2005, an upcoming report that uses U.S. Census Bureau data to analyze artist demographic and employment trends. The National Council on the Arts advises the Chairman of the NEA, who also chairs the Council, on agency policies and programs. Members of the Council are Presidential appointments and are selected for their widely recognized knowledge of the arts or their expertise or profound interest in the arts. There are 14 members including the chairman and six ex-officio members from Congress.
