To support the Freedom Creek Blues Festival. The two-day event will be held at the home of Willie King in rural Old Memphis, Alabama. Proposed artists include Jody Williams, Jerry "Boogie" McCain, and Willie King and the Liberators.
ARIZONA
Chamber Music PLUS
Tucson, Arizona
To support the creation and performance of a new chamber theater work, Mesmeric Mozart. The work, featuring an original score by composer Libby Larsen, will be based on the life of Marie Paradis, a blind pianist, composer, and acquaintance of W.A. Mozart.
Red Rocks Music Festival
Phoenix, Arizona
To support performances of music inspired by the Holocaust. Related poetry readings, lectures, and visual arts presentations will accompany the performance.
West Valley Fine Arts Council
Avondale, Arizona
To support performances and related activities by Ailey II dancers. The company, which began in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, will perform and conduct lecture demonstrations for students in the Phoenix metropolitan area, including the Tolleson School District.

3rd I South Asian Independent Film
San Francisco, California
To support the Annual San Francisco South Asian International Film Festival. The sixth annual festival will screen full-length feature films, documentaries, and short films by media artists and independent filmmakers from the United States, Bangladesh, Canada, England, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Abhinaya Dance Company of San Jose
San Jose, California
To support performances of Rivers – A Mystical Journey, featuring original Indian choreography and music by composer Babu Parameswaran. The performances will illustrate the use of classical and contemporary Indian music and dance traditions.
Arab American Congress of Silicon Valley
San Jose, California
To support the annual Arab Film Festival. Staged at venues in Berkeley, San Jose, and San Francisco, the 12th annual festival will screen feature films and documentaries that present Arab and Arab-American culture.
Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center

To support a retrospective exhibition of Flo Oy Wong, a mixed media artist. The exhibition will be part of the annual United States of Asian America Festival at the SomArts Cultural Center in San Francisco.
Great Leap

To support Collaboratory, an intensive performing arts workshop for emerging artists taught by guest artists. The workshops culminate in performances of new work created by the participants.
Homeboy Industries

To support Homeboy Press, a literary magazine employing at-risk youth. Authors Luis Rodriguez and Leslie Schwartz will mentor program participants.

To support an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet titled Johnny and Ebony. The production will explore themes of division in the African American community, including questions of loyalty.
Slavonic Cultural Center

To support CroatiaFest 2008. Activities include a concert featuring traditional music and dance, a tamburitza master class, a film screening, and a photography exhibit. Proposed artists include the Koraci Croatian Dance Ensemble, St. Anthony's Tamburitza and Kolo Ensemble Croatia, Tamburaski Orkestar Momci, and the Slavonian Traveling Band.

International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management
Denver, Colorado
To support the Indigenous Film and Arts Festival. Exploring the theme "Contact: Conflict and Resolution," programming will focus on work of indigenous filmmakers.
Su Teatro

To support the production of Daniel Valdez's Ollin, a play exploring the clash between the Aztec and Spanish during the conquest of Mexico. Valdez will also direct the play and participate in residency activities.

Connecticut Children's Theatre

To support the production of Pinocchio, a Musical Journey and associated outreach activities. The classic story, featuring an original script and score including work by playwright Patty Carver, will be presented to youth audiences in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

To support the Environmental Film Festival. Related activities include discussions with filmmaker Deirdre Towers and a performance by storyteller Antonio Rocha, recognized for his tales of jungle animals and ecological themes.

To support a concert of traditional Indian music, featuring the Chatteerjee family. This acclaimed family will perform on Indian instruments the sitar and table.

To support A Harvest of Belle Glade Voices, featuring actor/playwright Akin Babatunde. The musical theater work will incorporate oral histories of residents of the eastern shore of Lake Okeechobee.

To support performances and outreach activities by the Calder Quartet, a string ensemble. As part of the Artist Series 2007-2008, the Calder Quartet will perform and conduct related workshops for residents of Gadsden and Leon counties.

To support an exhibition featuring painter and sculptor Romero Britto. In addition to the exhibition, project activities will include workshops and lecture-demonstrations for residents of Homestead and South Dade.

To support the Creole Romantics, a series of concerts featuring the Albany State University Concert Chorale and guest pianist Marcia Hood. In addition to a performance for the general public, two concerts will be for Doughtery County grade school students.

To support the Creative Youth Art League Exhibition and the concurrent exhibit of works by visual artist Nancy Olney. The project is one of the Museum's many programs for communities of West Georgia and East Alabama.

To support the New South Play Festival. Project activities include a production of Valetta Anderson's Blue Water Fishing, workshops, staged readings, and the New South Young Playwrights Concert and Festival.

will collaborate with community members, many of whom have relocated from the
Gulf Coast, to create performances of Katrina, Katrina: Love Letters to New Orleans.

To support the Puna Performing Arts Festival, designed to involve impoverished youth. A series of workshops in circus arts, music, drama, and dance will culminate in public performances.

To support the Chicago Taiko Legacy, including performances and residency activities. The fifth annual event will feature Japanese drumming ensembles JASC Tsukasa Taiko, San Francisco's Gen Taiko, and Japanese lute artist Chizuru Kineya.

To support associated outreach activities and performances of From Temple to Theater by the Ragamala Music and Dance Theater. The project will highlight the South Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam with performances at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.

To support the creation of an exterior mural at the Culivadores facility in Rantoul. Lead artists will mentor apprentice artists in designing and creating the mural and the process will be documented for a public photographic exhibition.

To support performances by the Kronos Quartet. A performance of composer Terry Riley's Sun Rings will be preceded by a panel discussion with astronomy/physics professors and Kronos artistic staff.
IOWA
Dubuque Symphony Orchestra

To support associated activities and a concert featuring Gareth Johnson. Johnson is a winner of the International Sphinx Competition that recognizes young, ethnically diverse string instrumentalists. The concert is part of a series of concerts that will feature African American composers and musicians during Black History Month.

To support the annual Juneteenth Jamboree of New Plays. Festival activities include workshops with director/actor Ron Himes, founder and producing director of the Saint Louis Black Repertory Company.
Living Arts & Science Center

To support a media arts project for underserved youth. Media artist Ellen Frankenstein and composer Tripp Bratton will work with participants to create film shorts that will premiere during the Roots and Heritage Festival in downtown Lexington.

To support the exhibition Jim Henson's Fantastic World. Puppeteer Peter Brooke, creative supervisor at Jim Henson's Creative Shop, will host a Build-A-Puppet workshop for up to 200 visitors.

To support an artist residency with glass artist Beth Lipman. Lipman will participate in a glass blowing demonstration, workshops, and panel discussions.

To support the EuroFest classical music concert series. Artists scheduled to participate include pianist Emma Tahmizian, classical guitarist Ricardo Iznaloa, and composers Huang Ruo and Samuel Adler.
Greater Portland Landmarks

To support a convening of historic preservationists, design professionals, and community leaders to discuss successful design principles. The participants will learn tools to aid in rehabilitating historic structures and creating new buildings for cultural, educational, and residential purposes.

To support the residency of playwright Sharon Hatch French and the production of Joseph of the Village. The
play recounts Navajo history and will be presented in public performances
following Ms. French's residency with youth from the gifted and talented
program. The school district serves approximately 7,000 students of the
Navajo nation.

To support the Youth Mural Program. The program pairs professional artists with youth to create murals expressing the culture and history of the Grant County region.
NEW YORK
Canandaigua Lake Chamber Music Festival
Canandaigua, New York
To support performances by the Amelia Piano Trio and the Corigliano Quartet, a string quartet. These performances will be part of the 2008 Canandaigua Lake Chamber Music Festival that is held in the rural Finger Lakes region of New York.
Catskill Symphony Orchestra
Oneonta, New York
To support harmonica master Howard Levy in a concert performance and outreach activities. A Grammy winner, Mr. Levy will perform with the symphony, as well as participate in enrichment programs for area public school youth from a rural, three-county area in central New York.
Chinese-American Arts Council

To support Chinese opera productions featuring guests Charlene Tong of the Beijing Opera and Lin Yin of the Chinese Min Opera. Traditional Chinese theater integrates dialogue, ornate costumes, stylized movements, and poetic narration. The performances will take place at the Chinese Community Center and the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts Avery Fisher Hall.

To support wider distribution of the Cultural Calendar Highlights inserts which will be placed into Courier Life publications. To support MuralWorks, a public art program. Developed in partnership with the City of Cincinnati, MuralWorks is part of a community-wide initiative to engage people and employ youth as well as professional guest artists in the creation of works of public art.

To support guest artists for Lackawanna County ethnic festivals. Proposed artists include gospel legends the Dixie Hummingbirds, the Salsamba Latin Jazz Group, and Joseph Tayoun, a Middle Eastern percussionist.

To support Young Guns II, part of the In the Spotlight concert series. The concert theme will focus on musical prodigies and will present teenage pianists Michelle and Christina Naughton playing works composed at an early age by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Poulenc, and Bizet.

To support a performance by the Lark Chamber Ensemble. Percussionist

To support the production of My Name Is Somebody, an original
theatrical work. Chris Lutter, a puppeteer from Puppet Art Farm
and Heart of the Beast of Minneapolis will work with the Suzie Cappa
Players of the Black Hills Workshop, an organization for adults with
disabilities, to produce an original work.
Days of ‘76 Museum
Deadwood, South Dakota
To support the exhibit design for the Clowser Collection in the museum's new facility. The Clowser Collection is nearly 5,000 pieces of American Indian art and artifacts representing 20 different tribes and includes textiles, dance regalia, and other items.
First Peoples Fund
Rapid City, South Dakota
To support the Community Spirit Award, a series of programs honoring American Indian artists nominated by their tribes. The multiday event features exhibits of the artists' work, performances by tribal artists, and visits to reservation schools.
Rapid City Fine Arts Council

To support the creation of the Black Hills Press Box Web site. A
group of arts organizations will benefit from the development of a special
web-based marketing service. The service, using existing media
outlets, is designed to increase media coverage and will later be made
more widely available to other local arts organizations.
TENNESSEE
Frist Center for the Visual Arts
Nashville, Tennessee
To support the juried exhibit Artists with Disabilities. The Frist Center
will partner with VSA arts of Tennessee and Full Circle Art to provide a series
of professional development workshops to help artists develop their portfolios
and write artist statements.
TEXAS
Art Museum of Southeast Texas
Beaumont, Texas
To support Bryan Collier: Defining Moments, an exhibition and
related programming. Mr. Collier's watercolor and collage designs are inspired by stories of individuals who have impacted contemporary American cultural identity. The
museum will work with the Beaumont Independent School District to conduct
enrichment programs associated with the exhibit.
Binational Independent Film Festival
El Paso, Texas
To support components of a film festival including workshops and pre-event talks by independent film directors. Scheduled participants include filmmakers Andy Lauer, Steve Buscemi, and Mark Medoff. The festival, a juried competition of independent films, involves organizations in El Paso and Juarez, Mexico.
Centro del Obrero Fronterizo (dba La Mujer Obrera)
El Paso, Texas
To support Elements of Mexican Design and Architecture, a civic design forum. The
forum will serve as a foundation leading to the design of Plaza Mayachen, a
proposed Mexican heritage cultural tourism center in El Paso, a hub of the
U.S./Mexico border region.

To support the Cine Las Américas International Film Festival. The 11th annual festival will include documentary and narrative features, short films, and youth cinema made by or about Latin American and indigenous peoples of the Americas. Approximately 30 local, national, and international filmmakers will participate.

adaptation in English and Spanish. This adaptation by Alex A.C.
Garnder, featuring choreographer Cherita Judson, will be presented during
the summer of the theater's 17th anniversary season.

To support Actual Lives, a community-based theater project in which adults
with disabilities will create and perform original works. Guest artists
include choreographer Allison Orr, director Robert Tolaro, and writing coach
Chris Strickling.

To support the production of the operas Lucrezia by William Bolcolm and Bastianello by John Musto. Bolcolm and Musto will also perform in American Project, the festival's free public performance.

To support the presentation of Ellis Island: The Dream of America by Peter Boyer. The composition is a blend of oral history and symphonic music that celebrates the American immigrant experience.

To support When Janey Comes Marching Home: Portraits of Wounded Women Veterans. Writer
Laura Browder and photographer Sascha Pflaeging will collect photographic
portraits and oral histories of women soldiers wounded in the Iraq and

To support performances and outreach activities by Sierra Leone's Refugee
All Stars and their fusion of traditional West African music, roots
reggae, and rhythmic traditional folk. They will participate
in lecture demonstrations for general audiences, including residents
of Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood.

To support marketing efforts promoting the region's cultural offerings. Project plans include enhancing the alliance's website and expanding distribution of the Methow Valley Arts Magazine.
Penn Cove Water Festival Association

To support a festival featuring American Indian arts. Folk and traditional
arts, including the showcase of traditional canoes, are the focus of the event.
Pomegranate Center
Issaquah, Washington
To support the creation of decorative tiles at Pear Tree Place, a residential
rehabilitation facility. Artist Milenko Matanovic will lead elementary
students and their families in designing, fabricating, and installing the
tiles.
Swinomish Indian Tribal Community

To support the Superfly Filmmaking Experience. Professional filmmakers from the region will work with youth to create film shorts to be showcased at the Seattle International Film Festival.
WEST VIRGNIA
Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia

To support the creation and exhibition of an installation by artists Chris Dutch and Robin Hammer. As a collective impression of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, the installation will allow viewers to move within freestanding parts of the installation which will be presented in the Juliet Art Gallery.

To support mezzo-soprano Ruby Hinds' multi-media presentation of The Marian Anderson Story. Hinds will also speak as the guest of both the university's Women and Gender Lecture Series and the Racine High School Choral Festival.

To support a ballet performances of Alice in Wonderland, and associated educational activities. The production, choreographed by Derryl Yeager and Irina Kolpakova, will also tour to Prairie du Sac, Hartford, Oshkosh, and Milwaukee.

To support the commission of the kinetic sculpture Take Two: Me & You. Artists
Tom Loeser and Bird Ross will engage participants of YWCA/Third Street
Women's Program in the sculpture's design and fabrication. The
artwork will be located in the museum's free, indoor plaza.
