9. Acknowledgments
This work on sulfur
mitigation strategies for the Everglades was supported by funds from the South
Florida Water Management District. The use of any trade names in this report is
strictly for the purposes of full discussion, and does not constitute
endorsement by the Federal Government or the U.S. Geological Survey.
Information on sulfur contamination in the Everglades reported here is a result
of work supported by the U.S. Geological Survey Priority Ecosystems Studies
Program for South Florida (G. Ronnie Best, Program Coordinator). Most of the
sulfur work in the Everglades was conducted in collaboration with the Aquatic
Cycling of Mercury in the Everglades (ACME) Team. I thank David Krabbenhoft and
George Aiken (U.S. Geological Survey), and Cindy Gilmour (Smithsonian
Environmental Research Center) for their collaboration and insight over the
years on the mercury/sulfur/dissolved organic carbon issue in the Everglades. I
also thank my research team at the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston, VA for their invaluable field and laboratory support for the sulfur studies in the Everglades: Terry Lerch, Anne Bates, and Margo Corum. The manuscript was greatly improved by comments from Anne Bates and Sandra Neuzil (U.S. Geological Survey).
