National Science Board to Meet December 5-6, 2007, in Arlington, Va.

From December 5-6, 2007, the National Science Board (Board) will hold its final meeting for 2007 in Arlington, Va., related to national science and engineering policy issues and oversight of the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Open session highlights will include:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 11:30 a.m. to noon, Task Force on International Science to approve final draft report
  • Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Committee on Programs and Plans discussion of Board policy on recompetition for renewal of major NSF awards
  • Thursday, Dec. 6, from 8:30 to 9 a.m., Task Force on Cost Sharing report on roundtable discussions at the Experimental Programs to Stimulate Competitive Research and Industry University Coorperative Research Centers 2008 meetings, and planned cost sharing survey
  • Thursday, Dec. 6, from 10 to 11 a.m., Committee on Strategy and Budget:
    • Discussion of policy on NSF average award size, duration, and proposal success rate
    • Discussion of NSF policy limiting proposal submissions by a single institution
  • Open plenary session on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., during which action items will be finalized.

Media representatives are invited to attend all open sessions, subject to provisions of the Government in the Sunshine Act.

All meeting sessions will be held at NSF headquarters: 4201 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA (Ballston Metro stop).

The National Science Board was established by Congress in 1950, and has two important roles: to provide oversight for, and establish the policies of, the National Science Foundation; and to serve as an independent body of advisors to both the President and Congress on broad national policy issues related to science and engineering research and education.
