National Science Board to Meet August 6-8, 2007, in Arlington, VA

August 3, 2007

From August 6-8, 2007, the National Science Board (Board) will hold the fourth of its six annual meetings related to national science and engineering policy issues and oversight of the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Open session highlights will include:

  • Tuesday, August 7, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.--A review of the initial steps taken by NSF to develop a Transformative Research Initiative as recommended in the report, Enhancing Support of Transformative Research at the National Science Foundation in the Task Force on Transformative Research meeting.
  • Tuesday, August 7, 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.--An update and discussion of the NSF Major Research Facilities and Facility Plan in the Committee on Program and Plans meeting.
  • Wednesday, August 8, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.--A discussion of the Board's National Action Plan for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education in the meeting of the Committee on Education and Human Resources.
  • Wednesday, August 8, 1:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.--A discussion and possible approval of release for public review the Board's National Action Plan for STEM in the Board's Plenary Open Session.

Media representatives are invited to attend all open sessions, subject to provisions of the Government in the Sunshine Act.

All meeting sessions will be held at the NSF headquarters: 4201 Wilson Boulevard, Room 1235, Arlington, Virg. (Ballston Metro station).
