National Science Board to Meet May 14-15 in Arlington, Va.

The National Science Board will hold one of its regular meetings related to national science and engineering policy issues and on activities of the National Science Foundation (NSF), May 14-15, 2007, in Arlington, Va., at NSF headquarters, 9th and Stuart Streets (Ballston Metro stop).
Media representatives are invited to attend all open sessions, subject to provisions of the Government in the Sunshine Act. The full meeting agenda is posted at http://www.nsf.gov/nsb/meetings/2007/0514/index.htm .
Open session highlights will include:
Tuesday, May 15, Room 1235
- 10:30-12:00 noon - The Committee on Education and Human Resources will welcome M.I.T. professor Maria T. Zuber, who will present and discuss the results and perspective of a report by the National Academies, "Beyond Bias and Barriers: Fulfilling the Potential of Women in Academic Science and Engineering." The committee also will discuss the National Science Board's draft Action Plan for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The Science Board also will be hosting a separate event on May 14 honoring recipients of the 2007 Vannevar Bush Award (Shirley Ann Jackson, president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) and 2007 Public Service Awards for an individual (Bassam Shakhashiri, University of Wisconsin chemist) and for a group (CBS Paramount's Numb3rs dramatic television series). Requests for interviews of individuals receiving these awards should be made to the media contact listed on this advisory.
