DYNAMIC DATAData include the number of establishments and corresponding employment change for births, deaths, expansions, and contractions by employment size of enterprise, industry, and state. The industry and state are determined by the initial year data for establishment deaths and continuing establishments and by the subsequent year data for establishment births. For establishment deaths and continuing establishments, the enterprise size is determined by the employment of the controlling enterprise in the initial year. The enterprise size is determined by the employment of the controlling enterprise in the subsequent year for single-unit establishment births. For mulitunit establishment births, the enterprise size is determined by the employment of the controlling enterprise in the initial year if the enterprise exists in the initial year and by the employment of the controlling enterprise in the subsequent year if the enterprise does not exist in the initial year. For the purposes of the dynamic tabulations, an establishment is considered in existence in a given year if it has first quarter employment for that year. An enterprise is considered in existence in a given year if it owns at least one establishment with first quarter employment for that year.
