At NREL since 2004

Michael Selig joined NREL in 2004 after completing his Master of Science degree at Cornell University, where he studied the use of alkaline peroxide as a pretreatment prior to the enzymatic hydrolysis of wheat straw. He is currently investigating the potential of non-cellulase accessory enzymes and their potential roles in improving the efficiency of the enzymatic conversion process of lignocellulosic biomass. He has also been involved with efforts at NREL to investigate barriers associated with the transport of catalyst into biomass and efforts to correlate the structural changes that occur during the chemical pretreatment process with the susceptibility of biomass to enzymatic digestion.
