Larger AVI file (499k)This movie clip (of which the release image is a still frame), created from images taken by NASA's Cassini spacecraft, shows a high-latitude area of Jupiter. At latitudes above 45 degrees, the banded appearance of Jupiter's clouds gives way to a more mottled appearance. T he cause of this transition is not fully understood.
Cassini is a cooperative mission of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages Cassini for NASA's Office of Space Science, Washing ton, D.C.
