EPA's Office of Underground Storage Tanks (OUST) in Washington, DC, is undertaking this initiative to address petroleum contamination from abandoned USTs around the nation to assist communities with their revitalization efforts. On July 1, 2002, EPA awarded 40 grants of up to $100,000 each to states and Indian Tribes nationwide for site assessment and cleanup of releases from USTs. Region 10 was awarded five grants; three in Washington.
