Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Criminal Research Specialist serves as the resident analytical expert in conjunction with the development of criminal investigations for the assigned field office, its subordinate resident offices and agencies, and other Federal offices as required. He/she uses computer-aided applications, manual processes and analytical skills to conduct complex and difficult research projects and assignments related to investigative and protective intelligence cases, financial crimes and counterfeit; act as liaison with other agencies, financial institutions, credit card and telecommunications companies, concerning investigative matters. The Criminal Research Specialist performs complex statistical analysis and trends forecasting for Secret Service criminal and protective intelligence; serves as a member of an investigative team, and may frequent travel to other field office districts. He/she provides both in-office and on-site technical assistance to Special Agents and support staff on asset forfeiture-related matters including determining assets appropriate for seizure.

Criminal Research Specialists work long hours and travel frequently on short notice. They are required to carry and remain proficient in the use of firearms.

Training:

Newly appointed Uniformed Division officers receive approximately 8 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia or Artesia, New Mexico. Upon successful completion of training at FLETC, they receive approximately 11 weeks of specialized instruction at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, Maryland.
