2002 Holiday Tree Tags on Sale at Forest Offices
Salmon, Idaho: November, 2002
Welcome to the Salmon-Challis National Forest.
I hope cutting your holiday tree will add to the season's memories.
A tag costs
$3.00 per tree and may be used in any area administered by the Salmon-Challis National Forest. In order that future generations can also have
this opportunity, the following guidelines apply:
-
Only 2 trees per household and trees cannot be resold.
-
Cut trees within 8 inches of the ground and below the lowest
live branch.
-
No tree over 8 inches in diameter at 4-1/2 feet above the
ground shall be cut.
No topping is allowed.
-
Do not cut trees within 300 feet of campgrounds, streams,
lakes or ponds.
-
Do not cut trees near homes or on private land, within 100
feet of roads, 200 feet from US Hwy 93, 1/4 mile from the Salmon
River Road, within a tree plantation, or any “lone trees”.
-
The tree tag must be signed and attached to the tree trunk
before moving the tree from the cutting site.
A few areas are CLOSED to tree cutting:
- Salmon/Cobalt Ranger District: Silver Creek
- Lost River Ranger District: Pass Creek Narrows
- North Fork Ranger District: Fourth of July Creek
Please use caution on snow covered roads and be aware of possible
mining and logging traffic.
The following roads have logging traffic:
- North Fork Ranger District: Spring Creek Road
- Salmon/Cobalt Ranger District: Williams Cr. Road
Your tree will be in fine shape for the holidays if you keep it
in a bucket of water indoors, or
packed in snow outdoors wrapped in burlap. A diagonal cut on the
butt of the tree will help it absorb water.
Have a safe and enjoyable visit!
