FIRE SUMMARY
AUGUST 27, 2000

Due to poor visibility perimeter mapping on all fires within the Wilderness Complex was limited.  Low relative humidities coupled with a red flag warning resulted in active fire behavior throughout the Wilderness Complex.

PARKER   1,000 ac (est)              Latest update 8/27
The Parker fire is located near Parker Mountain.  District FMO flew the fire on August 25, and did not report measurable change in fire perimeter or fire behavior. There are no known threats in the vicinity.   No new information to report on August 27, 2000.

FILLY    5,500 ac (est)  Latest update 8/27
The District FMO flew the Filly fire on August 27.  Some fire activity on the southeast perimeter of the fire.  Interior islands of unburned fuels were active.  The fire is still on the west side of Horsecreek.  A fire scare from 1998, is located northeast of this fire and is anticipated to limit fire growth to the north.  Pumps and hoses remain pre-positioned at Gattin Ranch (6-7 homesites).  The West Fork RD, Bitterroot NF, is concerned about potential spread to the north, where approximately 100 private inholdings are located.

The District FMO flew the Packer Meadows fire on August 25, and did not report measurable change in fire perimeter of fire behavior.  No new information to report on August 27, 2000.

KITCHEN   18,800 ac (est)  Latest update 8/27
Kitchen and Butts joined and will be called the Butts Fire.  Due to poor visibility the fire was not flown today.  No new intelligence available.  No threats are identified at this time.

PAPOOSE   2,200 ac  Latest update 8/27
Due to high winds and smoke emissions no new information is available on this fire.

SHELLROCK   68,500 ac (est)  Latest update 8/27

A concern surrounding this fire is its movement down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River towards Simplot Ranch and Tappen Ranch.  No new information is available due to poor visibility and weather conditions.
 

LITTLE PISTOL  39,000 ac (est)  Latest update 8/27

Yesterday the Little Pistol fire made a major run, moving approximately 6 miles.  The fire crossed the Middle Fork of the Salmon River burning 17 ranch homes and 4 outbuildings at Pistol Creek Ranch.  The Custer County Sheriff ordered and evacuation of the Middle Fork Lodge, and contacted the Simplot Ranch recommending residents and visitors evacuate.

Today acreage growth is estimated to be 400 acres.  Growth on all flanks was minimal.

INDIAN CREEK 2,800 ac Salmon-Challis, 4,500 ac Payette (est) Update 8/27
The fire continues to move north into the Payette NF.  Aerial observation flight today reported no movement towards the east.  No reported change in acreage.

WILSON    Update 8/27
Current status is unknown because heavy smoke precludes reconnaissance.

PUNGO MTN.  Update 8/27
No fire has been detected in recent days by aerial reconnaissance.

JACKASS   Update 8/27
Incorporated into the Aparejo fire during its expansion on 8/18 and 8/19.

Unknown status; smoky conditions have precluded reconnaissance.
