FIRE UPDATE – July 23, 2000 1815

The Twin fire (formally the Twin Creek fire) has grown to approximately 350 acres and escaped initial attack. Extreme fire behavior forced fire fighters to evacuate the fire lines this afternoon. The fire is threatening the ski resort and structures in the Lost Trail Pass vicinity. Both Montana and Idaho State Police are planning traffic control measures in this area along Highway 93. People are encouraged to avoid this area if possible. A National Type 1 Incident Management Team, a group of the most highly trained and experienced firefighters in the United States similar to the one assigned to the Clear Creek fire, has been ordered to assume management of this fire.
