ADB and US FlagU.S. Share in ADB Procurement and Contribution

The US share of ADB total procurement in 2007 amounted to $ 318 million ranking US at 6th.  In consulting services, U.S. ranked 2nd at $ 51 million next to India at $ 56.  The U.S. share of ADB procurement from Jan 1967 to Dec 2006 amounted to $ 6.62 billion, ranking U.S. 5th among all 67 ADB member countries. Since the founding of ADB, U.S. total contribution to ADB resources totaled to $ 4.44 billion (12%), positioning U.S. second to Japan with $ 14.6 billion (39%).

ADB lending activities in 2007

In 2007, the ADB approved 82 loans for $ 10.23 billion, seven multitranche financing facilities for $ 4.02 billion, five equity investments for $ 79.8 million, four guarantees for $ 376 million and 242 technical assistance operations for $ 243.4 million.  The major borrowers included Pakistan ($ 2 billion), Viet Nam ($1.48 billion), India ($1.38 billion); People’s Republic of China ($ 1.30 billion), and Indonesia ($ 1 billion).  Meanwhile, Transportation & Communications (39%), Multisector (16%), Energy (14%), law, economic management and public policy (12%),  Finance (12%) top the share in the sectoral loan distribution for 2007.

In any given year, ADB borrowers spend about $ 5 billion on goods, civil works and services. In addition, the ADB spends about $175 million annually to fund its consulting needs. This provides significant business opportunities to suppliers, contractors, engineering design and project management firms, and consultants from among the ADB’s member countries.
