News From the Field UC-San Diego Engineers Part of Nationwide Effort to Make Buildings Earthquake Safe

Engineering researchers from University of California, San Diego and the University of Arizona have concluded three months of rigorous earthquake simulation tests on a half-scale, three-story structure, and will now begin sifting through their results so they can be used in the future designs of buildings across the nation.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that

engineering, with an annual budget of $6.06 billion. NSF funds reach all 50
states through grants to over 1,900 universities and institutions. Each year,
NSF receives about 45,000 competitive requests for funding, and makes over
