49 CFR, Subchapter B - Security Rules for All Modes of Transportation
Security Regulations
Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Chapter XII, Subchapter B contains Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) rules that apply to many modes of transportation. Below is a brief description for each part of Subchapter B, along with a link to the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (e-CFR) and a link to TSA's regulatory history documents. Where applicable, parts that are "(Reserved)" are proposed additions or amendments to the CFR. These parts are not linked to the e-CFR until the amendments become final. However, TSA's regulatory history sections for these parts are available for viewing.
Part 1520 Protection of Sensitive Security Information
Governs the maintenance, safeguarding, and disclosure of records and information that TSA has determined to be Sensitive Security Information (SSI). SSI is sensitive but unclassified information related to transportation security that is provided to entities in the transportation sector on a need-to-know basis in order to carry out their security obligations. This part does not apply to the maintenance, safeguarding, or disclosure of classified national security information, as defined by Executive Order 12968, or to other sensitive unclassified information that is not SSI, but that nonetheless may be exempt from public disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. In addition, in the case of information that has been designated as protected critical infrastructure information (PCII) under section 214 of the Homeland Security Act, the receipt, maintenance, or disclosure of such information by a Federal agency or employee is governed by section 214 and any implementing regulations, not by this part.
