Western Region Colloquium

The History Of The WRC

The Western Region Colloquium was founded in February 1996 as a monthly speaker series intended to bridge the gaps between the Bureau's four divisions. The colloquium seeks speakers who can present information of broad interest that spans the spectrum of earth and environmental science.

Our speakers range from government and industry experts, to academics to USGS staff from all Disciplines and Regions. The Colloquium has become the most highly regarded speaker series in Menlo Park and has provided a venue for broad-based talks that would not fit into any of the narrow team-based seminar series. Because the talks are pitched at a general level, they encourage participation from a wide cross-section of USGS staff and thereby create new opportunities for interdisciplinary research that previously did not exist.
