Purchasing new equipment?

To get the most out of your purchase:

  1. Ask for an ENERGY STAR qualified model. A salesperson may suggest a less efficient unit and say it is energy-efficient. Look for the ENERGY STAR.
  2. Ask your contractor to show you if it is cost-effective to replace your equipment with an ENERGY STAR. EPA's HVAC Investor software is easy for contractors to use and will help to answer your questions.
  3. See if your purchase qualifies for ENERGY STAR financing.
  4. The efficiency of your heating and cooling system depends on more than the equipment you buy. Proper sizing and installation of your equipment, installation of a programmable thermostat, sealing air ducts, and seasonal maintenance all contribute to a heating and cooling system that delivers comfort and savings.
  5. Get a quality installation.
