Dangerous Goods and Cargo Security Inspector

Duties and Responsibilities:  The incumbent of this position serves as a Dangerous Goods and Cargo Security Inspector at an assigned airport.  Resolves routine situations that may be encountered in the transport of dangerous goods and cargo by air.  Conducts, monitors, and, as required, participates in inspections.  Such inspections may be based on incident response, incident reports, trend analysis, and information obtained during routine inspection activities.  May recommend requests for exemptions to cargo security regulations from air carriers and shippers, and coordinates with the Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) as necessary.  

Key Skills

• Knowledge of compliance and enforcement concepts to effectively conduct inspections.
• Knowledge of regulations, laws, rules and security pertaining to  air transportation of dangerous goods and cargo.
• Ability to interpret and apply aviation, security and hazardous materials regulations to resolve situations.
• Skill in communicating effectively in order to convey inspection/investigation findings and recommendations to audiences with a differing viewpoint and goal.
