Scientific Investigation

According to the NAEP science framework, scientific investigation includes the application of appropriate scientific knowledge, problem-solving skills, and thinking processes to the creation of new knowledge and understanding. The NAEP 2005 science assessment probes students' abilities to

• acquire new information;
• plan appropriate investigations;
• use scientific tools; and
• communicate their results to a variety of audiences.
