The Department of Energy (DOE) is pleased to offer a new resource to help you increase sales of ENERGY STAR qualified products: the Windows, Doors, and Skylights Partner Resource Guide. For the first time, you can access consumer messaging, fun facts, market data, and cost savings information in a single document. DOE encourages you to use this information in all your marketing channels — point of purchase, Internet, in-home sales, TV, radio, and print.

2006 Updates

October 13, 2006

Application forms for the 2007 “ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year” Awards are now available. Since the Product Manufacturer application covers numerous ENERGY STAR product categories, the Department of Energy has added elements to the application criteria that pertain specifically to the windows, doors, and skylights program area (highlighted in the application form in blue). The deadline for submitting an award application is December 15, 2006.

June 13, 2006

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is pleased to release a new marketing resource for window, door, and skylight partners titled Marks, Maps, and Messaging: Simplified Marketing Guidelines for Partners. The document briefly summarizes the current ENERGY STAR labeling and logo use requirements and provides examples of proper use.

March 28, 2006

The ENERGY STAR label can now be used to identify and document energy efficient windows and skylights eligible for the home improvement tax credit according to a special ruling by the IRS. Exterior doors may use a manufacturer’s certification statement to prove eligibility.

2005 Updates

November 15, 2005

Following a series of public comments and revisions, the final specification requirements for ENERGY STAR qualified New Homes was released, which includes requirements for fenestration products. For those windows partners supplying to the new construction market, this could be a great opportunity to increase your sales and promote the energy efficiency of your products.

September 26, 2005

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) offers the Windows, Doors, and Skylights Manufacturer Search as a tool to enable consumers to search for manufacturers of windows, doors, and skylights whose products qualify in their climate zone and are available in their state. DOE recently upgraded the search and invites you to verify that your listing is accurate and complete and to activate your Web link.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) would like to remind you that the final deadline for labeling your window, door, and skylight display units with the new ENERGY STAR display unit labels is approaching. Partners are asked to use the appropriate ENERGY STAR display unit label on all display units, including new units and existing displays at retail locations, by July 31, 2005.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) would like to inform you that the official Program Requirements for manufacturer partners participating in ENERGY STAR for Windows, Doors, and Skylights have been updated to include and clarify all current program rules and guidelines.

May 17, 2005

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the establishment of an Equivalent Energy Performance Amendment to the ENERGY STAR eligibility criteria for residential windows and doors. The amendment allows products with energy performance equivalent to the current prescriptive criteria to qualify in the Southern and South/Central climate zones, excluding California.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reminds partners that the first deadline for labeling window, door, and skylight display units with the new ENERGY STAR display unit labels is approaching.

Partner input is requested on the proposed changes to the ENERGY STAR New Homes specification. The proposed specification would now explicitly integrate ENERGY STAR qualified products including windows, appliances, light fixtures, and ceiling fans.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) would like to provide partners with additional information about printing options for the new ENERGY STAR display unit labels for windows, doors, and skylights.

February 14, 2005

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announces the availability of new cost and energy savings estimates from installing ENERGY STAR qualified windows in new or existing homes. The analysis shows that in every state, installing ENERGY STAR qualified windows can lower energy bills and save money over single pane and even new double-paned, clear-glass windows.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announces new display unit labeling guidelines for manufacturers and retailers of windows, doors, and skylights. The intent of these guidelines is to help partners increase sales of ENERGY STAR qualified models by ensuring that prospective buyers are aware of ENERGY STAR qualified options at the time of purchase. The guidelines require that all display units for windows, doors, and skylights bear the appropriate ENERGY STAR display unit label.
