Mission Focused

Our employees are focused on making travel safe for the public.  The core mission within the Federal Air Marshal Service is to:

Promote confidence in our Nation’s civil aviation system through the effective deployment of Federal Air Marshals to detect, deter, and defeat hostile acts targeting U.S. air carriers, airports, passengers and crews.

The FAMS mission supports national security priorities beyond security of the aircraft as well. It includes enhancing the protection of the nation’s critical infrastructure, including the transportation systems and other important mechanisms that bolster the vitality and security of the country.

Highly Trained

Our employees are trained to high standards and they maintain those standards while accomplishing our mission everyday.

Our Federal Air Marshals are highly trained federal law enforcement officers.  They have the highest firearm qualification standards in the law enforcement community. More about Federal Air Marshal training can be found here.

We have some of the most respected and well-trained explosives response personnel in the country.  Each Federal Air Marshal Service field office has explosive personnel as well as a nationally coordinated explosive team at our headquarters facility.
