November 21, 2006

In conjunction with the ERIC initiative to encourage individuals to include structured abstracts with their online submissions, ERIC is pleased to announce the release of a self-paced video on structured abstracts.

The video features segments on:

  • What structured abstracts are
  • What an ERIC structured abstract looks like
  • What kinds of materials are best-suited for structured abstracts, and
  • How structured abstracts benefit education

Viewers may watch the video from start to end or look at segments in any order. The second segment provides an overview of the elements of a structured abstract from a report on a randomized trial of four elementary-school reading interventions.

The video is narrated by Dr. Phoebe Cottingham, Commissioner of Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance in the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences.

The structured abstract option is the latest enhancement to ERIC's Online Submission System (currently in Beta release).
