MaineHousing offers several financing programs to encourage private and not-for-profit development of affordable multifamily properties, supportive housing and single family homes. Additional programs offer opportunity for the owners of qualifying properties to restructure existing MaineHousing debt or obtain additional financing.
MaineHousing programs offer low income housing tax credits, development loans, direct development subsidies, and affordable housing tax increment financing. Some programs finance housing specifically for low and very low income families, seniors, and people with special needs. Other programs finance housing for lower and moderate income people.
For programs where MaineHousing provides direct financing, MaineHousing’s Construction Services Team provides technical assistance to developers and their design and contractor teams to ensure that projects meet MaineHousing program goals and design standards.
MaineHousing provides options for qualifying owners of affordable housing to obtain supplemental financing after a project is developed, and to refinance qualifying MaineHousing debt. Extended affordability periods on the affordable housing units are usually required.
