Re: Access Board Draft Guidelines
I am writing to express my opposition to drafting guidelines that mandate
autible traffic signals (FTS) at all traffic light intersections and required
detectable warnings.
With proper training, blind people are able to travel safely without having such
costly devices at every traffic light intersections in the United States. I
think modifications should only be considered when sufficient non-visual cues
are not otherwise available and should be installed when particular traffic
patterns are complex making it difficult for the blind person to determine when
it is safe to cross. and, detectable warnings should only be installed when the
slope going in to the street is virtually flat.
Once again, please note my opposition to drafting the current guidelines being
considered by the Access Board
Sincerely,
Christine Hall
