GIS & Image Processing Tools

AGI GIS Dictionary
The dictionary includes definitions for 980 terms compiled from a variety of sources which either related directly to GIS or which GIS users may come across in the course of their work. The dictionary is also supplemented by 52 diagrams.

ArcExplorer
ArcExplorer is a lightweight GIS data viewer developed by ESRI. This freely available software offers an easy way to perform a variety of basic GIS functions, including display, query, and data retrieval applications. It can be used on its own with local data sets or as a client to Internet data and map servers.

EpiInfo
Epi Info, a series of computer programs produced by CDC and the World Health Organization provides public-domain software for word processing, database and statistics work in public health. Version 6 of Epi Info was released in May, 1994.

EpiMap
Epi Map is a program for IBM-compatible microcomputers that displays data using geographic or other maps. Data values may be entered from the keyboard or supplied in Epi Info or dBASE files.

GRASSLinks Implementation 2.0
GRASSLinks is a World Wide Web interface to the geographic database of REGIS, an environmental planning research group at the University of California, Berkeley. GRASSLinks was developed by Dr. Susan Huse to provide public access to environmental data. A user need only have a Web browser and access to the internet to use the large spatial database and powerful GIS software available at REGIS.

MapMaker Gratis - Free GIS for Windows
Map Maker has been designed primarily for development projects in developing countries though it has proven to be of use in a wide range of other fields, notably archaeology and environmental monitoring.

MOEP-to-ARC/INFO translator utilities
MOEP-to-ARC Info is a series of utilities which translate map data from B.C.'s TRIM (MOEP) format into PC ARC/INFO.
NOTE: These utilities require PC ARC/INFO.

MultiSpec
MultiSpec is a processing system for interactively analyzing multispectral image data. The most complete system is implemented under the Apple Macintoshª operating system. It will thus operate satisfactorily on any model of Macintosh. It will also operate on Sun and HP workstations equipped with the MAE system available from Apple. It is intended for multispectral image data, such as that from the Landsat series of Earth Observational Satellites or hyperspectral data such as from the AVIRIS Imaging Spectrometer. It has also found significant use in other applications such as multiband medical imagery and in K-12 and university level educational activities. There are currently in excess of 500 known, registered users.

NIH Image
NIH Image is a public domain image processing and analysis program for the Macintosh. It is being developed at the Research Services Branch (RSB) of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This site also includes pointers to other image processing software.
