Category Descriptions

Category 1: Regular Processing for Flight Training on Aircraft over 12,500 pounds

Candidates for training in aircraft above 12,500 pounds who are NOT current and qualified to fly the aircraft for which they are requesting training and are not eligible for Category 2.

Category 2: Expedited Processing for Flight Training on Aircraft over 12,500 pounds

Candidates for training in aircraft above 12,500 pounds who are NOT current and qualified to fly the aircraft for which they are requesting training and fall into one of the following subcategories:

• Candidates who hold a foreign airman certificate that is recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration and hold a type rating for an aircraft above 12,500 lbs.
• Candidates who are employed by a foreign air carrier that operates under 14 CFR part 129 and has an approved security program permitted under 49 CFR part 1546.
• Candidates with unescorted access authority to a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA).
• Candidates who have successfully completed a criminal history records check in accordance with 49 CFR 1544.230.

Category 3: Flight Training on Aircraft 12,500 pounds or less

Candidates for training in aircraft 12,500 pounds or less who are pursuing one of the following three training events: the initial license, instrument rating or multi-engine rating.  Candidates are required to submit separate training request applications for each of the above training events.  Candidates are not required to apply to the AFSP for any other training event on aircraft below 12,500 lbs.

Category 4: Recurrent Training for Aircraft above 12,500 lbs.

Candidates who are current and qualified on the aircraft above 12,500 lbs. for which they are requesting training.  The Provider must submit the Category 4 training request and the fee and fingerprints are not required.
