Q: What is the correct way to cite an ARS web page?
A: We recommend using The Chicago Manual of Style 15th edition for citing web pages. The following information should be included in the citation: Author's name, Year, Title of web page, Title of entire web site, URL, (optional date of access). For more information, please refer to The Chicago Manual of Style

Q: How can I find the nutrient content of a particular food?
A: 1. Go to the USDA National Nutrient Database at http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
2. Enter the food as keyword (i.e. "banana") and click submit.
3. On the resulting page click the button next to the description of the food you want information on (i.e. "Bananas, raw") and click submit.
4. On the resulting page select the serving size (i.e. "1 medium") and click submit.
5. The resulting page lists the nutrient content quantities in the food (i.e. "medium sized raw banana")

Q: How can I get a copy of "Nutritive Values of American Foods in Common Units", Agriculture Handbook No 456?
A: You can purchase a copy of the "Nutritive Values of American Foods in Common Units", Agriculture Handbook No 456 from the Government Printing Office. You can place an order at www.gpo.gov. You can also contact them by phone toll-free at (866) 512-2250. You can also check National Agriculture Library website http://www.nal.usda.gov/ to see if they have a copy available for online use. They have a database called Agricola which tracks many of the Agriculture publications.
