February, 2005 North America Zone Award Winner

In February, David J. Baer of the Diet and Human Performance Laboratory (DHPL), Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, was selected as the North America Zone winner for the 1st Pan-American Prize in Nutrition Science and Food Technology.  The award, presented to Dr. Baer in Mexico City, is sponsored by Grupo Bimbo, Mexico City, Mexico and was awarded based on his research conducted on fatty acids and inflammation. 


New Hires – Research Associates

Dr. Kim Stote joined the Diet and Human PerformanceLaboratory as a Research Associate in August 2004. She received her PhD from Syracuse University and her Master’s of Public Health degree from the University of South Florida. Dr. Stote received her BS degrees in Dietetics from the State University of New York and completed her Dietetic Internship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.Prior to joining DHPL, she has worked as a clinical dietitian and has managed many human clinical studies.Her research has focused on the cardioprotective effects of chocolate and almonds.In DHPL she will continue her studies of chocolate, polyphenols, proteins and weight management.
