Q: How do I register with USAJOBS?

A: Go to www.usajobs.gov. Click on "MY USAJOBS" in the main navigation. Click on "Create Your Account Now!" Complete the form and click on the "Submit" button. You will be taken to the Resume Builder where you can create and store as many as five different resumes. PLEASE NOTE: You will need your social security number, an email address, and an electronic copy of your resume. Click on the following link for further assistance with Getting Started with USAJOBS: http://www.usajobs.gov/firsttimers.asp.

Q: Is it possible to have multiple identities or more than one email address in USAJOBS?

A: No. You are identified in USAJOBS by your social security number, your email, and your password which you entered during the registration process. USAJOBS will not allow you to create more than one account using the same email address or social security number.

Q: What if I submit false information?

A: USAJOBS is a Federal position application system. Providing false information, creating fake IDs, or failing to answer all questions truthfully and completely may be grounds for not hiring, for disbarment from Federal employment, or for dismissal after you begin work. Falsifying a Federal position application, attempting to violate the privacy of others, or attempting to compromise the operation of this system may be punishable by fine or imprisonment (see U.S. Code, Title 18, section 1001).

Q: I'm uncomfortable using my social security number. Is there any way I can fill out an application without it?

A: No. Your social security number (SSN) is one of the few reliable means Government agencies have to distinguishing one applicant from another. We request your SSN under the authority of Executive Order 9397. USAJOBS is a secure, encrypted website and your SSN cannot be accessed by anyone who is not directly involved in the hiring process. In addition, your SSN is not displayed when your application is referred to the selecting official.

Q: Why am I required to provide my date of birth?

A: NSF recruits for some jobs that have age requirements. Your date of birth is not displayed when your application is referred to the selecting official.

Q: How is the confidentiality of my Race and National Origin data protected?

A: Applicants have the option to voluntarily and confidentially enter demographic information when initially registering in eRecruit. To ensure the candidate's anonymity, the data is immediately encrypted and cannot be tied to a specific candidate.

Q: I don't understand why USAJOBS won't let me in.

A: Please review the procedures for logging into USAJOBS. Instructions are provided on the web site for your assistance. Remember, you must be a registered user of USAJOBS before you can apply for eRecruit jobs, and your user id and password are case sensitive. Your eRecruit ID will not allow you to login to USAJOBS. If you continue to have trouble logging in, contact USAJOBS Help.

Q: How can I get help if I forgot my password or am having problems logging in to USAJOBS?

A: Please refer to the Account Information section of the USAJOBS FAQs or contact USAJOBS Help.

Q: If my USAJOBS account is deactivated, can it be reactivated?

A: USAJOBS accounts are deactivated after 18 months of inactivity. If your account has been deactivated, you should create an entirely new resume. It is to your advantage to update your resume at least twice a year to maintain your marketability and to avoid deactivation.
