The Pesticide Inspector Residential Training (PIRT) program trains federal, state, and tribal pesticide inspectors and field supervisors on how to conduct various types of pesticide inspections. PIRT offers three courses, sometimes in combination:
- Pesticide Use Inspection Training Course
- Pesticide Product Enforcement Training Course
- Worker Protection Inspector Training Course
Training Objectives:
- Train a core group of pesticide inspectors that can, in turn, train other inspectors in their state and tribes;
- Provide inspectors with updated procedures in conducting pesticide inspections;
- Provide an opportunity for states to learn about completed projects to potentially implement similar projects in their state;
- Provides an open forum to share ideas on best practices and discuss lessons learned; and
- Provide a networking opportunity for states and tribes.
The courses include two and a half days of lectures and written exercises as well as a day for mock field inspections utilizing real life scenarios. Two PIRT courses are offered each year and are co-sponsored by EPA and a volunteer state.
