OIRM's Division of Information Systems administers the agency's sophisticated technological infrastructure, providing the hardware, software, and support systems necessary to manage the agency's grant-making process and to maintain advanced financial and accounting systems.

KEY SERVICES

The Administrative Systems Branch provides systems development, database management, and related services for the administrative systems within the agency.

The Customer Support and Assessment Branch provides office automation software product research, user support, and Help Desk activities.

The External Systems Branch manages the operational activities of the FastLane Program and other university-NSF-agency-industry activities.

The Infrastructure Management Branch provides management and technical support for central systems operation and distributed systems planning.

The Research Directorate Systems Branch provides systems development, database management, and related services for applications that primarily support the research directorates within the agency.

The Security, Architecture, Policy and Plans Branch provides coordinated support for agency wide information technology initiatives in the areas of security, enterprise architecture, policy and plans, investment planning and management, and responds to information technology and information management requirements specified in Federal law, guidance and regulations.

The Telecommunications Branch is responsible for data communication operations (including electronic mail, network support, and telephony).

FASTLANE

A project developed and implemented by the Division of Information Systems, FastLane is an electronic system of administering scientific research grants, educational fellowships, and a host of other interactive functions. It was chosen in 1996 as the first Federal government project to win a coveted National Information Infrastructure Award (NII).
