Photo of the Milky Way Galaxy

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered about our place in the universe and whether there might be another Earth out there in the cosmos? Are we alone? Where did Earth and the Sun come from? Humans for countless generations have wondered about our connection to the Sun, moon and stars that adorn the heavens.

Astronomer and educator, Dr. Paul Dusenbery from the Space Science Institute, will talk about the amazing discoveries that have recently been made in our own Solar System, our galaxy and beyond.

You will be transported to the surface of the Sun to witness colossal explosions and their impact on Earth. Your journey will take you to Jupiter, King of the Planets, and Saturn, the Lord of the Rings. You will visit a stellar nursery and learn about the life cycle of stars. Their deaths can be mild or wild.

You will also see what's beyond our own galaxy, the Milky Way. Along the way, we will play two fun games. Finally, we will return back home to planet Earth and have some time for reflection and questions. Come with us on this journey of discovery.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory recently debuted “The Energy Planet”at its Visitors Center in Golden, Colo.  “The Energy Planet” is a short movie about energy from the sun and how we use it on our planet.  It uses Science on a Sphere®, – the unique visualization system created by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency – to show visitors the world on a 6-ft. globe.  Animated images projected on the globe show the sun, the Earth, and how renewable energy resources can change the planet.

Come see our energy planet the way you’ve never seen it before.

Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., closed on weekends and major holidays.
