Can I save my application?
Yes. You can save your information at any point in the application. To
save your application, click the SAVE button at the bottom of any
FAFSA page. Do not use the Save commands that are built into
the browser.
To restore your saved application, you must provide us with your:
- Social Security Number,
- Last name,
- First name,
- Date of birth,
- The password you entered when you created the application.
TIP: If you forget your password, contact Customer Service and they will be able to reset it for you.
Your saved application will be automatically deleted after 45 days or after the federal application/correction deadline date has passed. Select Application Deadlines on the home page for more information.
How can I report a programming error in FAFSA on the Web?
You can e-mail customer service for assistance at
FederalStudentAidCustomerService@ed.gov or by selecting the
Contact Us option from the home page. This e-mail address is
for error reporting only.
If you have further questions, refer to the Customer Service page.
I am using Web TV and I cannot get my application to go through. Why?
WebTV does not have the necessary components needed for FAFSA on the
Web. You must use one of the approved browsers.
TIP: To view approved browsers for FAFSA on the Web, select Before Beginning a FAFSA and then Browser Requirements from the list of options on the left side of the home page.
I get the error message “Application Not Found” when checking my application status online. What should I do?
- For electronic applications, be sure that the Social Security Number and first two letters of your last name that you are entering match what is shown on the confirmation page you printed. If you do not have a confirmation page, contact Customer Service.
- If you submitted a paper FAFSA, the status of your application should display online within 7-10 days from the date the application was mailed. Contact Customer Service for assistance.
If I forget the password I used to save my application, what should
I do?
If you forget your password, you cannot retrieve the application you
saved! Neither Customer Service nor the U.S. Department of Education
has a record of your password.
What is a PDF document and how can it be accessed?
PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It’s a type of file
that looks like a photocopy of an original printed document. To view a
PDF, you must have the free Adobe Acrobat software installed on your
computer. We recommend you install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat
Reader for best results. Select
Adobe
Acrobat Reader if you want to download or would like to upgrade.
TIP: You may have an issue with Internet Explorer version 6.0 and PDF documents. Sometimes when opening a PDF document from a secure connection, a warning message will display from the browser stating ‘This page contains both secure and non-secure items. Do you want to display the non-secure items?’ Our site displays secure items only, so if you see this warning, select ‘Yes’ to open the PDF document inside your browser window.
