Crime & Safety Surveys (CSS)

Overview

Welcome to the Crime and Safety Surveys web site, where data and reports produced by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) on the topic of school crime and safety are centralized.

This site is organized by survey respondent, since surveys have been done from the perspectives of students, teachers, schools/principals, and school districts.

Currently, two surveys are being conducted on a regular basis by NCES: the School Survey on Crime and Safety (SSOCS), a survey of public schools/principals, and the School Crime Supplement (SCS) to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), a survey of students ages 12 through 18.

New Tables in Table Library

Over 140 tables have been added to the table library of the CSS & SSOCS websites. Results from the 2003–04 SSOCS and 2003 & 2005 School Crime Supplement to the National Crime Victimization Survey (SCS) are now available. New options on the table library search allow users to search 1999–2000 and 2003–04 SSOCS tables by year, school level, and topic, and 2003 & 2005 SCS tables by topic.
