Ground Water Unit (GWU)
The GWU is made up of the following programs:
These programs are authorized under different statutes and regulations, but they have a common goal, which is to prevent the contamination of ground water and protect public health.
Our mission is to protect the health of Northwest communities and to sustain the ecology by safeguarding ground water.
We will:
- Build state, tribal and local capacity for strong, comprehensive ground water protection that effectively addresses both point and nonpoint sources of pollution and that protects the most valued and vulnerable ground waters;
- Coordinate and implement EPA programs to ensure consistency with ground water protection goals and support for state ground water protection programs;
- Provide technical, programmatic, and financial assistance to state, tribal and local authorities for ground water protection programs; and
- Practice and encourage personal stewardship by building citizen's awareness and understanding of the value and vulnerability of ground water resources.
